Update on Hailey and School

Just thought I'd give a little update since my last post about Hailey and school...

She is doing FANTASTIC! No more pits in her stomach, she has 4-5 really good girl friends that she plays with, and she even made a friendship bracelet for one of them, and has plans to make more. She LOVES her teacher, and compares Mrs. Goeke to her kindergarten teachers (YES!). She gets excited to go to school now, and enjoys learning again... how I love how Heavenly Father looks after my little ones, and answers my prayers! I am so grateful for the opportunity my kids have to go to Liberty Traditional. It really is a great school. I have been so elated about how Mrs. Bekkala and Mrs. Goeke teach and care for my children. It's going to be a GREAT year!

Oh, and Xander has been doing FANTASTIC with his behavior and listening skills... I must admit, I thought I'd be getting phone calls (he's just really full of energy at home) ;) but Xander has really surprised me! Way to go son!

Best Friends

Hailey and Xander made up their own handshake that they do. This was the first time I witnessed them doing it when they didn't know I was watching. I dropped them off for school, and Hailey walked Xander to the kindergarten playground. They were at the fence (on both sides) and reached over... They kiss the palm of their hand, the top of their hand and then their fist. Then they do a slap slap and knuckles. It is so flippin' adorable! I am so glad I witnessed how much they adore each other when they think I'm not looking. How lucky they are to have each other!
I took this picture of them after they got home... they are soooo cute together!

Haileys tidbits

I am going to a Relief Society gathering tonight, and in the car Hailey asked me, "So, when are you going to the house tonight?"

Thinking she meant the house in Chino, I replied, "Oh, I'm not going to the house tonight, I'm going to the church..."

Her reply?

"I meant the House of the Lord"
---------
On another note, Hailey and Xander are supposed to be doing homework... They're being super cute together, Hailey is quizzing Xander on math facts... 7+4, etc. then she asked him to get her a Capri sun, and now they're giggling and doing more math facts. She's a cute teacher... "try to remember, don't count!" he just got one wrong, and she whispered it to him, even though they're the only two at the table. I love my kids!

Oh, now Xander asked Hailey if she wants to help him with his homework, she said, "Sure! I'm your big sister!"

Teaching Moment

Hailey has been getting knots in her stomach about school. It was so bad that she stayed home from school on Friday. I even brought her to school that morning to try to talk her out of her butterflies. But after talking to her teacher, we thought it would be best to let her calm down and feel better. I had her take a good nap, and she wasn't allowed to have any treats or go anywhere special. I had to let her know that staying home wasn't any fun. As much as it hurt to see her hurting, I knew I had to be firm with her "feeling sick" when I knew it was just knots.

I spoke with her a lot about why she was feeling sick, and she came up with she is scared because she's afraid of what happened last year. We talked a lot about that, and how she could start feeling better... I thought we were done with the situation, until last night. She started crying and telling me she didn't want to go to school. I started by telling her that it was all in her head and she needed to control her emotions. I told her not to let her chin fall and get sad, but to do as "Annie" does and "stick up her chin and grin"... I told her about the quote "we do hard things" I told her she can do it, and to tell herself that over and over... Eventually she said she felt better, and drifted off to sleep after Cody scratched her back and drew on her face with his finger (I don't know how else to explain that).

This morning she started up again. I gave her a bracelet before school started, and reminded her that if she needs a pick me upper, to look at the bracelet and know I'm thinking about her and I love her. I then showed her that I was still wearing the ankle bracelet she made me, and told her I'd be thinking of her as well. She kept telling me her stomach hurt, and I let her know that it was her mind that was doing that, not her body, that she was not sick.  I asked her to name what she loves about school, and she had quite a list... Telling me that brought some smiles to her face... At breakfast I took my moms advice and while I prayed out loud, I let her hear me ask for her to feel better, make good friends, and enjoy school. She was still nervous as we were getting backpacks on, and I reminded her that she is a Johnson. Johnson's are brave, Johnson's do hard things, Johnson's smile. I told herto pray, to keep her chin up, to focus on other children who are in need of a friend. Still a little nervous, but not crying, I walked her to the playground after dropping Xander off. She gave me a smile and a kiss, I told her I believe in her, I know she can do it, and she waved goodbye. I then stopped by her teachers class, and let her know she's still nervous, and Mrs. Goeke said she'd do her best to help her, and keep me informed.

I keep praying for my little girl... I had to keep my tears back while she was so sad. Trying to teach Hailey to be brave and get rid of knots in her stomach was not something that I thought I'd have to do, she was so adaptable in kindergarten... Unfortunately, she had a horrible 1st grade year. I pray that she will remember how much she loved school, and will love school like that again. She loved it so much she was sad when we took her out one time to go to Disneyworld.

I know she can do it. She can do hard things. She just needs to believe that.

Being a mom is hard. My heart aches when my kids ache. Sometimes teaching moments are fun, others are hard. This teaching moment was hard, and I'm hoping Hailey will gain more confidence.

New Breakfast

I saw this idea on pinterest, and I had to make it... it was a HUGE hit! I made pancake batter, put syrup in it before it was cooked, Cody cooked and cut up sausage links, I sprayed pam into a muffin tin, set the oven to 350 degrees, put the batter into the 12 muffin tins, then put chocolate chips in 4 tins, frozen fruit into 4, and sausage into 4... cooked for 14 minutes, and whala! Breakfast! (It's really good with some butter!)

Nap Time

Cody caught this picture of Xander and I. We fell asleep watching an afternoon movie together. I do look more comfortable than him... isn't he just so sweet? Boy do I love my little guy!

Hair

I love doing the girls hair... I've been doing fun things with Hailey's hair each day of school this week... Somedays, Brielle will let me too!  I want my girls to know one day that I did do their hair... sometimes it doesn't look like it in pictures, especially Brielle, cause she always asks me to take them out before I decide I want to take a picture :)

Here's today...

here are some others... not all of them, but some :)

These are Brielle... the first one has a fish braid, and then there is a mini braid within the braid... the second one is a bow :) ... its actually really hard to do her hair because she is always leaning. Oh well :)

These are Hailey, the first one is a twist (Hailey took the picture herself... the twist looks a lot bigger than it was, next time I'll just have to do it even smaller) ;)
The second picture is actually unfinished... it was the first day of school... I curled it later with a straightener and added a flower to the back after I was done :)
------------------------------

The girls are so cute. Brielle sits way better for Hailey to do her hair than she sits for me. Earlier they were playing with My Little Ponies, and doing their hair... oh how I adore these girls!

Weston's Prayers

Weston now folds his arms with the family... it is so cute to watch, I think everyone takes a sneak peek at him during the prayer, I know I do :)

First Day, New School...

The kids were really excited to go to school today, Hailey was really nervous yesterday until she received her annual "Father's Day Blessing" that Cody does the night before school starts.

Hailey woke up early so I could do her hair... I did 3 braids, pulled her hair half back, and curled the rest. Xander just needed a little hairspray and he was good to go.

{on Saturday} the kids picked out flowers and pots to give to their teacher... I added a little note that said, "I can't wait to 'Blossom' with you this year" and the kids signed their names... it was a hit.

The kids did great, Xander seemed to want me to leave, feeling all grown up. Brielle is the one who had the hardest time. She cried all the way back to the car. {we went for ice cream after}

Xander - Kindergarten: Mrs. Bekkala
Hailey - 2nd: Mrs. Goeke

Liberty Traditional {k-8}
Uniforms!! Red, Navy, White
Go Eagles :)

I can't wait to hear how their first day at school went!!

**UPDATE**

The kids LOVED their first day of school! Xander came out and he said, "That was FANTASTIC!" He loved his teacher, and sits next to a girl named "Annie", who is REALLY NICE! (according to Xander... and all the girls in his class think he's really cute. There are 2 LDS kids in his class (that we know of so far... Nathan Kleinman from the Glassford Hills Ward and Haley Briggs from the Mingus Foothills Ward).

Hailey was excited that her teacher was really nice, and she sits next to a nice boy named Bryce, and made a friend with a girl named "Mia". She said she got complimented on her hair, and REALLY LIKES this school... it's WAY better than Lake Valley :) (She also said she saw a boy from the Glassford Hills Ward on the playground- Joel Henline)

Tuscon

Cody had a Prosecutor Conference down in Tuscon, and they were going to reimburse us for a hotel anyways, so since no one was in school, we all went with Cody to go play in Tuscon for a couple of days... we had a lot of fun. Room service, going out to eat, staying in the Embassy Suites (which had 2 queen beds + a pull out sleeper sofa and a pack and play crib... it was great! It was super hot, so we went in the pool quite a bit, and also went over to the Westin Resort (where the conference was) to go down the fun water slide. Hailey and Xander kept doing it over and over again. In the picture, Hailey is exiting the slide :) What great form!  We went to the mall a couple of times, and Hailey got a faux diamond bracelet from Charming Charlie. The conference was over on Friday, so we went to Mesa to play with cousins and for me to take an exam. We played on Saturday with the Paynes, and then headed back to Prescott Valley to get some sleep so we could start getting ready for church the next morning and school starts on Monday!
